Our Advanced Pre-K Program is called the Sharks. Children here prepare for Kindergarten with fun activities and challenging academics.
The Sharks are given assessments in September, January, and June and then broken into small groups so that each group can work at their specific level.
During their Daily Circle Time they discuss the calendar, including days of the week and months of the year. They count by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, and 100s and practice counting with money. They gain valuable oral skills by having an individual sharing time each week.
The Sharks do art activities daily. This includes both free art and crafts based on their thematic unit. Art time gives them a creative outlet and helps develop fine motor skills such as cutting, gluing, and taping. They also have music and movement activities every day.
Some of the concepts that they work on include, but are not limited to: the alphabet, phonics, letter writing, simple words, reading text, predictions, poetry, reading comprehension, math, social studies, and science.
